Porch Ideas

There are way too many ideas floating around in my head for what to do on my front porch.  {Actually you can check out my Pinterest "outdoor" board here.}  I'm trying to narrow my ideas down about what is realistic for my space.

This is her:

I would feel a little bratty if I didn't add the disclaimer: "It's a perfectly good front porch."  We have a swing, two rocking chairs, and some cushion; the essentials.  But everything looks very piece-y.  The chairs are Charleston green {but to the untrained eye, black}, the swing is cedar {?}, and the cushions just aren't really our style.  I bought them right after we were married, mainly because it was a set and it was cheap and it was the cutest one the place had.  Side note: I actually see that fabric every where still.

So while looking all over the place at pictures I found this picture.  It absolutely has the feel I want.  It's narrow, has a ceiling fan, a painted swing that is full of pillows, and just looks so gosh darn inviting.

I've already shared the fabric with you, but here is a better idea.

Then comes the design board.

I haven't actually decided if I want a rug or not.  I started looking at all the porches I've "pinned" and hardly any have a rug...hmmm...

I'm probably going to paint the chairs the lightest green you see.  Well, actually... the more I look over the fabric, the more I want to use the golden yellow{on a big scale you don't notice it as much}.
Side note: This is a little trick to help make sure you are tying your colors together.  If you use a colorful fabric, use ALL of it.  Most of the time the design tricks your eye and you only see a few of the colors.  Look really closely and pick out the color with the least amount of use and RUN WITH IT!

And I'm thinking I want to hang a few rustic birdhouses on the brick between the two windows.
Side note {i'm full of these today}:  I already don't like the birdhouse with the red roof for this space.

So what-cha think of my plans?!

  1. Love your plans! Can't wait to see what you end up doing! You are so lucky to have a porch like that, I dream of having one...maybe one day. (I sometimes feel like I'm a Southern girl at heart...)

  2. Of course I had to come check out the plans...it looks so fantastic...I'm already a huge fan of the brick and the white trim, I *cannot* wait to see it with the "upgrades" (c:
