One of the things on my list was to replace the lamps. Well, pretty quickly I realized I was also in the market for lampshades, too {duh}. I know, many, many, many of you have had all the luck in the world at Homegoods and TJ Maxx, but not here. The closest lamp I found came with a lampshade that looked like Coco Channel's dogs had a fight with a lampshade. The lampshade did not win. So again, I was still on the hunt. I can honestly tell you I had know idea what I was actually looking for at the time. The lamps and the shades were both a classic case of "I'll know it when I see it".
Then I saw it. I knew instantly. And I got that really ridiculous, "This is it! I have to have these now!" feeling that I'm not too proud of, but nonetheless, got.
On top of the *feeling*, there were two {check} and they were already rewired {check} and they were $15 each {check, check, check}!
SOLD.
But the problem of not having a shade still remained. Once I found the brass lamps I was about 98% sure I wanted them to wear some navy ikat shades.
After looking on the internet for what felt like forever I was only able to find this baby for a whopping $175. Yeah, no thank you.

Next solution, find the fabric I want, and the skeleton of the shade I want, and make my own.
Although I loved this fabric, I just couldn't quite pull the trigger on $30/yard fabric + shipping. I know I've said this before, but I'm so

Thankfully this fabric was found at a steal and I didn't have to worry about that problem anymore.
I gathered up some materials
And my help...
And, Ta-Da!
Ok, so this project really wasn't easy...at ALL, but I can pretend, right?
Alright, alright, I'll show ya how I did it, tomorrow!
And I can cross two things off my living room list!
Sell rug and buy navy trellis rug
Change out old school Tiffany ceiling fan
Paint coffee table
Cover / Replace / Reupholster sofa
Somehow hide the cable box, DVD player, etc.
Find new basket for storing G's toys
Rearrange just a tad
I gotta role! My mom is in town and we're having a full-on girl day! For us that means shopping for bargains and DIY materials, duh!
