The Ugly Truth

I have a full fledged confession to make.
One that is going to make my husband throw his hands up and do a victory dance.
No, he doesn't like when I'm unhappy.
But, yes, yes he does like when he's right and I fight against him being right, only to later admit defeat.  With my tail tucked tight and my white flag waving hard...

Anywho, I was very smitten over the whole pink, gold, and navy combo for my living room this past spring.  {Why am I just now realizing how incredibly patient my husband is with me?}
So when I found this rug, I was in love.
{Actually I was in love with this one, but it was out of stock...sigh}

Of course, my prince charming made it happen, and
BAM!

I had the trellis rug in my living room.

Awe, yay!  I finally have the rug I wanted!!!
Well, those "!!!" should have a * with a line at the bottom of this post that reads:
* sarcasm.

Bottom line, for some crazy reason*, my rational husband decided not to let me sell our old rug on craigslist when we bought the new one.  Ugh, it was like he was preparing for my defeat.  Whatever.  I realized yesterday when he offered to get the old one down from the attic to switch it back out and I didn't IMMEDIATELY object, something was wrong.

Why would I want to do that?

Because I literally have to vacuum EVERY THREE DAYS {if not less} TO KEEP THIS STUPID THING CLEAN!!!

And just a side note: I do not vacuum every three days, people.  That does not work in my world.

Ok, so what, it's in our living room, where everybody walks, and we have a 2 1/2 year old, and a puppy, and, and, and.
So, no, this probably wasn't the best rug for our living room...
Hindsight is a bugger.

I saw this BEYOND adorable nursery the other day that
A} I had to share on the 'ol blog.
&
B} Made me want to wish her the best of luck {and pray that she's a stay-at-home mom with a love for vacuuming.  Much like my love for an empty sink.  Seriously, the rest of the house can be a freaking wreck, but as long as there are no dirty dishes in the sink...ahhhh}.

I will give her this; at least it's not high traffic.
And seriously, those curtains are so beautiful they could easily distract you from a dirty rug.
Truth.

Ok, please tell me there's something you fought so hard for and now kind of wish you didn't, please.
Don't worry, I'm 110% sure your husband doesn't read my blog.

*Footnote: I did get my rug from Rugs USA, but this post has nothing to do with the quality!  No, they didn't make me write that, I just don't want anybody to get the wrong idea.*

  1. Oh lordy, my list could go on and on. And almost all of them involve paint colors. And I SUCK at painting walls so it means I beg my husband to do it and then I want it changed immediately.

  2. That sucks about the rug! I hate vacuuming too so I totally understand. That nursery is gorgeous but you definitely don't have time to vacuum with a baby!

  4. I'm pretty sure it happens to all of us, because I do the exact same thing. I have all these dandy ideas with great colors and layout, and then I put it in my house and I'm like ummm that wasn't what the picture looked like?!? Pinterest makes everything look perfect! O well! Sometimes is best to just throw in the towel! They love it when we do that!

  6. LOVE that nursery and I love your rug, but if it doesn't stay clean then it's not good for the area. Could you move it to a less traffic area?

    Oh and you're definitely not alone. My husband has a 1 year rule... I have to live with something for a minimum of a year even if I decide at 6 months that I dont like it.

  7. So is the problem because it's navy? I am currently obssesing on a grey trellis rug for my living room. Should I go for it or do you think I would have the same problem? I don't have a dog but I do have 4 kids. The vacumm sees the light of day once a week ( on a good week).

    1. I think a lighter color would have helped, but it might also be because it's a solid pattern. I see these rugs all the time, and I haven't really heard people complaining with the lighter color. If I find anything I'll post back!

  9. I had a dark rug too and my dogs' light fur on it drove me crazy. I hate to be wrong too, so I feel your pain! Good thing you kept the old rug and maybe you'll have a less-trafficed room to put the trellis one in someday.

  11. Isn't it the worst feeling when you get something that you have wanted for so long and then it comes in the house is just wrong - done this a time too many!!

  12. It happens to us all. Sometimes rugs are really pilly at first and then they chill out - maybe try it in another room for awhile.
